#LA02 Rene Lalique Crystal Sanglier / Wild Boar

This is the “SANGLIER” or Wild Boar hood/radiator mascot designed by Rene Lalique in 1929 Marchhac 1157. It has become one of the most collectable of the twenty nine known mascots, with some originals selling today for many hundreds of pounds. This impressive and highly collectable Crystal Lalique Wild Boar (sanglier) car mascot paperweight is fully signed Lalique – France on the base. Rare and in mint condition with the frosted finish. Etched on the underside of the base is: ” R. Lalique, France “. Moulded mark “R.Lalique” under belly above the base.  The quality of the piece expresses all the beauty that Lalique produces.

Rene Lalique was born a rural 19th century man in a pre-industrialized Europe. It was a time before light bulbs, and telephones, before automobiles and washing machines and electricity. But by the time of his death in 1945 at the dawn of the atomic age, he would have completed two careers spanning two different centuries. In 1900 at the age of 40, he was the most celebrated jeweller in the world and an art nouveau artist and designer of magnificent proportions, but by 1925 at the height of the art deco era he was the most celebrated.
